Spyderco Mariner Salt SPC120S

This is the great looking Spyderco Mariner rust free knife, the C120S, part of their Salt series of knives. It is a fantastic folding pocket knife that features a sheepfoot blade, as it was back in the 1980's and 1990's when the mariner made its first appearance.

The earlier versions used to have drying vents built in whereas the modern version is purely a rust free variant.

The knives have blades made from H1 stainless steel. H-1 is an alloy compound that does not rust, being based on Nitrogen instead of Carbon. Carbon reacts with Chlorine in the water forming rust but Nitrogen does not, still allowing for a strong edge to be formed.

The Mariner Salt's sheepfoot blade has a rounded tip for safety. When working around inflatable craft, or in close proximity to accident victims, a sharp tip is not really ideal!

The good thing about Spyderco knives is the thumb hole cut into the blade. The 12mm hole on this knife allows for easy opening one handed, or if you have wet hands, or gloves on for instance.

A pocket clip is included with this knife that allows for right hand tip down carrying, as well as a lanyard hole to suit your own personal style of carrying.

When closed, this knife measures 4 3/4” in length so it suits pocket carrying brilliantly.
The blade is 3 3/4” in length and when open the whole knife measures 8 7/16”.

At 4.9oz in weight it's just about right, not being to light or overtly heavy. A great looking knife with the Spyderedge blade – it will make light work of anything that crosses it's path, cutting through things like fishing lines and ropes with ease.
