Case 6056 Item Description:Here is the Case Barlow knife with stag handle and Damascus steel blades. It's the perfect mixture for those who like knives that are somewhat different. This model is the 6056 version.
Case have been pleasing their customers for more than 100 years now, trying out new techniques and materials all of the time. Damascus steel is a steel that was used hundreds of years ago by master sword makers from yesteryear.
They would traditionally forge layers and layers of various types of steel together, heating them up, forging them as they came out, adding substances, reheating etc. before forging once again. Cutting through the blocks would create varying patterns which are now seen on the blades. A more modern approach is to use acid to create certain patterns.
This knife has two Damascus steel blades – a Spear blade and a pen blade. They have this unique raindrop appearance in the carbon rich steel, and they certainly force your eyes to devour every single bit of them. A fingernail groove allows the blades to be retracted from the handle when you need to use them. This makes life easier and safer.
The handle has a polished Nickel Silver bolster clamped on the end of the handle where the blades pivot from. Then the handle material is the stag antler taken from the Indian Samber and Chital deer. This is a particularly dense form, allowing it to be put to good use. It is held on with a brass pin and brass nails, and then a Case shield is inlaid within the handle itself.
Overall this is a lovely little knife. It's pattern number is 52009 DAM, it's weight is 3.2oz and it's overall length (when closed) is 3 3/8 inches. We think this is a highly valuable knife with plenty of charm, backed up by the good reputation of Case.
