The company is German company, and back in those early days they would sharpen their steels using natural sharpening stones, making sure they took advantage of hydraulic water power. After the second world war, Oswald von Frankenberg und Ludwigsdor (1915-1986) joined the brand, and led the company into a direction that dealt purely with the great outdoors, and stated there would be no more household knives, instead focusing on the likes of hunting, fishing and outdoor knives. Puma use a range of steels including 420, 440A 440B, 440C, Bohler N 680 and Damascus steel.
